a literary home for her

A space where girls
read, learn, and belong.

She Reads Kenya builds community reading spaces, peer mentorship, and remedial learning for young girls and children across Kenya, so every learner can find the page that feels like home.

Why This Matters

When reading struggles, everything else follows.

Across our communities, too many young girls and learners are moving through school without strong foundational reading skills. Not because they cannot learn, but because they have not been given enough opportunities to fall in love with reading.

And when reading struggles, everything else follows. Confidence dips. Curiosity shrinks. Learning becomes something to endure instead of something to enjoy.

But when a child learns to read, and to love reading, everything opens up.

Reading builds imagination. It strengthens understanding. It unlocks education.

She Reads Kenya exists to nurture that love early through community reading spaces, peer mentorship, and remedial support, so every young girl can see new possibilities for her life.

About Us

A growing community of young readers, learners, and storytellers.

We are committed to making reading accessible, meaningful, and joyful. Through community reading spaces, peer-to-peer mentorship, remedial learning, and the libraries we set up across Kenya, we create opportunities for young girls and children to engage with books in ways that feel personal and empowering.

This is not just about literacy. It is about identity, confidence, and voice.

Our Impact

Every story opened is a door.

Young girls are discovering the joy of reading beyond the classroom. Learners are catching up on foundational skills with the support of peers and mentors. Conversations in our libraries are becoming deeper, more honest, and more reflective.

We are not only improving reading habits, we are nurturing confidence, strengthening voices, and building communities across Kenya rooted in shared growth and advocacy.

What We Do

Four ways we keep the pages turning,
the voices rising.

Every program begins with the same question: what would have made reading feel possible for me, when I was her age? Then we build that.

Community Reading Spaces

Welcoming spaces where young girls gather to read, reflect, and connect with peers and mentors.

Peer-to-Peer Mentorship

Older readers walk alongside younger ones, sharing books, encouragement, and the confidence that grows from being heard.

Remedial Learning

Focused support that helps children catch up on foundational reading and learning skills, at their own pace.

Libraries Across Kenya

We set up libraries that double as quiet places for personal reading and community spaces for meetings and advocacy.

Community Stories

In their own words.

A young reader in our community
"This is the first time I've felt like reading is for me."
A young reader in our community
"I came for the books, but I stayed for the people."
A young reader in our community
"I am learning to speak up, because I've seen myself in the stories we read."

one story at a time

A child who reads with confidence learns with confidence.
A young girl who loves reading grows into someone who questions, leads, and creates.

This is how we unlock education. This is how we expand possibility. One story at a time.
